Graphs/Tables Grades 6-8, 9-12
Synopsis
This interactive map, table, and chart from Our World in Data show students where and how much biodiesel and bioethanol are being produced around the world since 1990.
Students can select the countries they wish to see on the line graph and download the data.
The map and chart are easy to read and can be customized.
Students can isolate the data they need to limit irrelevant information.
Prerequisites
Students may need to learn about biodiesel and bioethanol, as there is no explanation or additional information provided in the resource about where the material used to make the biofuels comes from or if those resources are sustainable.
Differentiation & Implementation
Students can explore the various sources of material that could be used for biofuels, such as used cooking oil, food waste, etc. Students can determine which would be the most sustainable choices, as industrially produced crops are likely not sustainable due to their heavy reliance on fossil fuel-based inputs.
