Synopsis
This music video shows three kids singing their own version of "When I'm Gone" that focuses on solutions to help the planet and climate action.
Students will see the girls perform a variety of individual and community actions, such as reducing plastic waste, repairing clothes, turning off the lights, and getting solar power on their school.
The video quickly exposes students to a wide variety of actions they can take, some of which students may not have thought of before, such as repairing their clothes.
Students can clearly see in the opening scene how climate change can have an impact on their day-to-day lives.
Prerequisites
Students should understand the causes of global warming and that it results in climate change.
Differentiation & Implementation
While watching, students can make a list of all the actions they see the kids making to try to leave the Earth better off.
Students can make a commitment to implementing one of the actions shown for a set period, such as a week or a month, and journal or create a presentation about the process, roadblocks, and outcomes.
For older students, teachers can highlight the school solar portion of this video and task students with reading this article about how solar is possible for some schools.
As an exit ticket, students can answer the questions, "Why should we leave Earth better? How can you do your part to leave it better?"
Teachers can highlight the collective action in this video, also addressing the need for systemic change.
