Synopsis
- This resource from 1YearForEarth provides a multitude of short, informational articles on various climate-related topics.
- Through reading each section, students will gain a better understanding of the definitions of climate crisis, Earth overshoot, net zero, zero waste, sustainable mindsets, recycling, upcycling, greenwashing, government-funded environmental organizations, carbon emissions, carbon footprints, carbon sequestration, and much more.
- Each section also offers an "Action" link for students to find ways they can help the cause and a "Definition" link for further exploration.

- Many of the sections have an interactive question students can answer, adding engagement and novelty to the resource.
- The resource provides students with many actionable steps that, even as young adults, they can implement.
Prerequisites
- Depending on the section students are reading, they may need terms defined for them, especially those dealing with biodiversity, carbon sequestration, and climate policy. Students may also need general background information about climate change if they are not reading the first few sections.
- Teachers should note that the Previous Post and Next Post features organize the fact sheets from the bottom up. For example, if a student is on the second item in the list and clicks Next Post it will take them to the first item on the list, whereas Previous Post will take them to the third item.
- Some of the links embedded in the text are broken.
Differentiation & Implementation
- Students can join the 1YearForEarth challenge by clicking Action at the bottom of the Sustainable Mindset page and creating an account. Students can meet weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly to discuss their progress with the challenge.
- The Defining Climate Crisis section does not link to the suggested resources. However, students can find Project Drawdown's Table of Solutions and other resources in SubjecttoClimate's resource database.
- Many of the sections refer to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. The UN Sustainable Development Goals lesson can give students an introduction to the goals if they are not familiar.
- Students can select a section about a specific topic, such as upcycling, zero waste, composting, or permaculture and regenerative agriculture to summarize for the class.
- While some of the sections do cover climate impacts, students may need more information about climate impacts and the importance of reducing emissions to fully understand the gravity of the situation.
- Economics classes may benefit from reading and discussing the CSR, Triple Bottom Line, & ESG section. This can also segue into a conversation about circular economies.
This resource is a series of fact sheets that address the basic science of climate change and provide a framework for sustainable development. Each sheet is clearly organized and links additional resources and definitions. All are grounded in sound climate science and feature many personally actionable items. This resource is recommended for teaching.
