Lesson Plans Grades 3-5, 6-8
Synopsis
This resource is a lesson plan for teaching students basic coding skills using an interactive website and a theme about making the world a better place.
Students can focus their project on social or environmental issues they've learned about or something else that is important to them.
This resource provides a step-by-step guide to facilitating a lesson where students imagine a world where something is better, then code to create a visual of that world.
This lesson plan is individualized, engaging, and includes many opportunities for differentiation.
Additional Prerequisites
The "Image a World" lesson begins on page five of the PDF, and ends on page eight.
Students should be comfortable and responsible working on a computer.
The interactive tutorial is located here for this project and you can get more information and sign in for additional resources here.
Differentiation
This lesson could be utilized in any class that uses computers to enhance learning about a topic that would make the world a better place.
This activity would make a great culminating project for students who have learned about any topics related to climate and how they impact humans. Students could use their learning to imagine a world where those impacts are non-existent.
As an extension, students could present their findings to their classmates or publish them on a site for others to view.
