Graphs/Tables Grades 6-8, 9-12
Synopsis
This resource from Our World in Data includes an interactive map, table, and graph that shows the cumulative installed capacity of onshore and offshore wind energy for countries around the world since 2000.
Students will be able to compare the countries and their wind energy capacity over time.
Students can customize the map and graph to display one or more countries of interest and compare them with the global total.
The data table, maps, and charts can be downloaded. The data table can also be sorted.
Prerequisites
Students should be familiar with line graphs, global maps, and data tables.
Differentiation & Implementation
Cross-curricular connections can be made with math, economics, and social studies courses when working with the data.
Students can also discuss the economic and societal benefits of building and using renewable energy. For example, building wind turbines creates jobs, reduces toxic air pollution, and slows down global warming.
After looking at the data, students can use the video lecture Danish Wind and Ions to evaluate the barriers to implementing wind energy and the factors associated with energy storage.
