Synopsis
In this data resource from Our World in Data, students can use a map, chart, or table to see what percentage of a country's energy comes from hydroelectric.
The interactive resource provides three different ways for students to explore data (chart, map, table).
Students may choose to view data sets for various geographic locations and time periods.
Related research and data are linked.
The site explains how the data was collected.
Prerequisites
Students should know what hydroelectric is. They should also understand the difference between renewable and nonrenewable sources of energy.
Differentiation & Implementation
Students can compare hydroelectric to other forms of renewable energy, taking into account which forms are more reliable and which will result in the least emissions.
If time allows, students can select a country getting 50% or more of their energy from hydroelectric and research the practices, policies, and infrastructure that make this possible.
