Synopsis
This outdoor activity sheet prompts students to find things with wings in four different environments.
Students look for anything with wings in the air, near water, in the woods, and in a field.
There is also space for students to write in something they spot that is not listed on their activity sheet.

Positives
This short activity gets students outdoors to observe their environment and notice things that fly.
This would be an effective introductory activity before discussing flight as an adaptation.
This activity encourages independence and allows students to write in their own observations.
Additional Prerequisites
Students should be to follow safety instructions in outdoor environments.
The worksheet is for New York but the animals listed are present in many locations around the United States and elsewhere.
You can reference this
NYDEC website
for more worksheets like this one.
Differentiation
Consider having students work in small groups and encourage individuals to draw examples of their observations on the back of the paper.
Be sure to give students proper safety instructions and perhaps have some assistance from additional adults before venturing outside.
After students complete their activity sheet, lead a discussion about why flight is important for some of the organisms they observed.
Discuss with students if certain organisms are migrating to new areas and how this may be connected to changes in climate.
