Synopsis
This resource is a one-stop shop for everything you need to know about planting and caring for trees in Wisconsin.
This site includes numerous how-to videos and printable brochures about how to plant trees, tree and site selection, maintaining trees, tree species recommendations, and trees for biodiversity, as well as a webinar and links to additional resources.
The videos are great tutorials for planting trees from burlap or containers.
This can inform students about how they can take action to help the environment.
Additional Prerequisites
Students should understand what trees need to grow and survive.
The YouTube videos linked in the resource may have advertisements.
Differentiation
The videos or supporting materials can be used to connect to biology classes and chemistry classes for lessons about photosynthesis, energy transfer, and evapotranspiration.
Younger students would benefit from a review of basic plant biology to ensure they understand how trees make their own food and why they need sun, soil, and water.
This resource could be used for adult learners or other teachers who are going to be volunteering for a tree-planting activity.
Connect this resource to climate change by discussing how the hardiness zones are changing, how changing weather patterns can affect native trees, and how these changes may affect the animals and people that rely on these trees for food and shelter.
