Games Grades 6-8
Synopsis
This game allows students to move water molecules through different locations and states of matter using the processes of the water cycle.
The goal of the game is for students to earn points by getting their water molecules to the "goal zone" using the natural processes on the game cards. The team with the most points wins.
The game is fun, competitive, and easy to navigate.
The game can be played individually or in multiplayer mode using the same computer or using virtual web rooms.
Prerequisites
Students should be familiar with the processes of the water cycle and states of matter.
The game is introduced with a short comic that students can click through or skip using the button in the bottom right corner.
A tutorial is available at the top of the game selection screen which explains the rules and setup of the game. Students will need to read the speech bubbles at the bottom of the screen during the tutorial.
Differentiation & Implementation
The game is flexible and can be used as individual practice, a partner activity, or a group activity in person or virtually.
The water cycle could be connected to climate change in a science classroom by discussing water vapor as a greenhouse gas.
This game could be used with older students as a review activity.
This resource could be used with this video to introduce the water cycle or this video that connects the water cycle and water pollution.
