In this presentation from Earth Cubs, students will learn about endangered species and the importance of conservation, using the species that live in the Galápagos Islands as an example.
Students will learn about the impacts of invasive species, ways they can contribute to conservation efforts, and the endangered species in the Galápagos Islands.
The animations and humor in this presentation will keep students engaged throughout.
Students will love the pink iguana character!
Prerequisites
Teachers may want to identify the Galápagos Islands on a map for students to understand where it is in relation to them.
Differentiation & Implementation
Students can select endangered species to research and present about, using the pink iguana as an example.
Teachers can connect the Galápagos Islands to climate change by discussing how they and other islands are particularly vulnerable to sea level rise resulting from climate change. Teachers can use the Warmer Water and Rising Sea Levels Experiment to support this topic.
This presentation can spark a conversation about the importance of biodiversity and the human actions that interfere with it, such as habitat destruction, climate change, and the introduction of invasive species. The Number Sense and Biodiversity Unit may be a great resource to facilitate this conversation.
