Mercedes-Benz showed off a new electric vehicle (EV) that combines luxury, speed, and tech.
Mercedes-Benz is a German car maker. Its new car puts sustainability first. The EV’s interior has no animal products. The seats are made of mushroom and cactus fibers. The carpets are bamboo fiber. The plastics and other materials normally found in cars? They are recycled waste. Solar panels in the roof power air-conditioning, lights, and a touch-screen control panel.
The EV’s most impressive feature? Its ability to travel twice the distance of any existing EV on a single charge. The car can travel 620 miles on a single charge! That's a record. It has a more efficient battery pack. The car also has special wheels and brakes. Plastics reinforced by glass fiber replace the metal in the suspension system. Tesla, though, promises to deliver an EV that goes 752 miles on a single charge. Other car makers have joined the race.
Mercedes-Benz showed the details of its first EV earlier this week. The company promises to show off the car's abilities this spring. This is yet another sign of the shifts in the auto industry.
The Mercedes CEO says: “The Mercedes-Benz Vision EQXX is how we imagine the future of electric cars.”
